On May 15th , over 80 percent of U.S. exports of consumer and industrial products to Colombia will become duty-free, including agricultural and construction equipment, building products, aircraft and parts, fertilizers, information technology equipment, medical scientific equipment, and wood. Also, immediately more than half of U.S. exports of agricultural commodities to Colombia will become duty-free, including wheat, barley, soybeans, high-quality beef, bacon, and almost all fruit and vegetable products. The Agreement also will provide significant new access to Colombia’s $180 billion services market, supporting increased opportunities for U.S. service providers. When the ITC staff visited the Transco office in November 2011, the Client mentioned they had a proposal in the final stage of a multi-million dollar contract with a Chinese company. They needed advocacy assistance from DCEO. In order to take advantage of international resources, the ITC introduced the client to the DCEO Office of Trade and Investment (OTI). With help from the OTI and the foreign offices, this special case was brought to the attention of Mr. Gary Locke, the U.S. Ambassador to China, to advocate for the bidding.
